Catholic Community on the Jersey Shore
The Catholic Church gets a bad rap about sexuality. The Church's teaching on marriage and sexuality are timeless and beautiful. God implored man and woman in Genesis to, "be fruitful and multiply. " He called this command "very good."
In the Old Testament's Songs of Solomon, God gives us one of the most passionate love songs.
God wants our "joy to be complete." (John 15:11)
God created us as man and woman for a purpose, and our purpose is to become one flesh in the Sacrament of Marriage and to become co-creators of life.
We are made for a self-giving love.
Secular society no longer values marriage or sexuality and has turned the male/female relationship into one of taking, not giving.
Saint John Paul II formulated the Theology of the Body, which teaches the joy of God's plan for our sexuality.
Distortions of God's plan, such as contraception and cohabitation hurt us, particuarly women.
If you follow the Church's teaching of Natural Family Planning, your chance of divorce is less than 1%.
If you live together before marriage, your chance of ultimately divorcing increases.
